Oklahoma Fishing Report: Runoff from the rain has created muddy conditions

December 15, 2022 by Molly Brenneman

Runoff from the rain has created muddy conditions

Beaver Lake

Runoff from the rain has created muddy conditions in parts upstream of Beaver Lake.

Fishing guide Jon Conklin said the lake level rose about a foot after the rain. This could slow the catch rate of bass in the southern end of the lake. Striper fishing has been good with many fish in the 20-pound class being caught on jigs and lures. The best striper fishing is from Prairie Creek south to Point 12. Monte Ne and Hickory Creek are good areas to try.

Crappie hold tight to brush, Conklin said. Fish seven to 20 feet deep with minnows or jigs. A template with a black body and a chartreuse tail is a good color.

Use crankbaits on jerk baits for black bass along points or shorelines with a mix of gravel and rock. Most black bass caught are spotted bass. The average water temperature at the surface is between 50 and 50 degrees.

Southtown Sporting Goods in Fayetteville recommends fishing for striped bass in the south half of the lake with minnows or walleye. Crappie are biting in 20 feet or less near brush located on channel edges.

Fishing guide Austin Kennedy said trout fishing is good with prepared baits such as Pautzke Fire Bait or Power Bait. Use light material. Small spoons are good bait for trout fishing.

Lake Fayetteville

Lake Fayetteville Marina reports no fishing activity.

Sequoyah Lake

Angler Mike McBride reports little fishing activity. Try black bass on spinnerbaits or jerkbaits. Use fish or machines for quarries.

Chip Wiseman at Hook, Line and Sinker in Bella Vista said rockfish are biting in 10 to 15 feet near brush on all Bella Vista lakes. For black bass, fish close to shore on a crankbait or Alabama rig. Go with Power Bait, worms or small spoons for trout fishing in Lake Brittany. Bluegills are biting worms.

Please note that fishing at Bella Vista is only open to POA members and their guests.

Siloam Springs,

Crystal lakes

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs recommends trolling minnows or minnows 10 to 12 feet deep.

Lake Swepco

Stroud recommends fishing for black bass with Ned rigs, drop-shot rigs, plastic worms or crankbaits.

Eastern Oklahoma

Stroud suggests fishing Lake Eucha for black bass on jerkbaits, Alabama rigs, crawdad-colored crankbaits and pigs.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports fair fishing in Grand Lake for bass on crankbaits and spinnerbaits around brush, rocks and docks. Crappies are clearly biting on the hairpins around the brush and docks. Blue catfish can be caught with chicken liver or halibut.

On Lake Tenkiller, fish are biting fair on crankbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits or plastic worms around brush, rocks or docks. Crappie are biting fair fish, rigs or worms around brush and docks.

Table Rock Lake

Focused Fishing Guide Service said black bass are biting crawdad-colored crankbaits along shorelines that transition from gravel to rock. Try vertical fishing 35 to 40 feet deep in creek channels with jigging spoons or a casting rig.
