Ice fishing tournament coming up at Curt Gowdy this January

The Wyoming Ice Fishing Tournament will be back for its eighth annual ice fishing tournament on January 14th! What a way to start the year!

Registrations are now open until the day of. Same-day registration begins at 5:30 a.m. at each lake’s registration station. Do not miss it!

  • This fishing tournament is open to fishing from all 3 reservoirs. Crystal, Granite, and North Crow inside Curt Gowdy State Park. State park entry fees must be paid and the envelope tab must be clearly displayed for each vehicle. The tournament will not be canceled or postponed for any reason except for unsafe ice conditions.

  • Since all 3 reservoirs are open for tournament fishing, there will be a registration/weigh station at each reservoir with at least 2 WFT adjudicators. The fish must be entered at the weighing station of the reservoir where they are caught.

  • No tagged fish will be placed in the reservoir.

  • Winning fish are determined by measurement, including the sum of length and girth. Length is measured from muzzle to tail, where the tail will be pinched to indicate total length.

  • After each fish is entered, it will receive a hole through the tail to ensure that it cannot be entered twice.

  • Each fish entered is only eligible ONE award See the ‘Awards’ page on the WFT website for more information.

  • The prizes will be NO will be distributed until the end of the event.

  • There are 7 categories of species eligible for prizes provided by our sponsors. See the ‘Awards’ page on the WFT website for more information.

  • To be eligible for prizes, contestants must be pre-registered and in possession of a valid WY fishing license, conservation stamp (except for 1-day fishing license holders) and an entry form in the printed tournament. Registration for the tournament is non-transferable between people.

  • Anglers must comply with WGFD Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations and Procedures.

  • Anglers must comply with WGFD fishing regulations.

  • Tournament fishing is restricted to January 7, 2023, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The start and stop time will be indicated by an air horn. You are welcome to set up before 7am, but no fishing is allowed before the start of the tournament.

  • Once you have caught a fish you would like to enter, immediately bring the whole fish to the billing station where it will be processed. Unregistered anglers in your party may jeopardize the validity of fish caught by registered anglers. The last time a fish can be brought into the entry station is 3:10 p.m.

  • All fish presented must be freshly caught. Any fish presenting with frozen, stiff, discolored eyes, etc. may be disqualified from entry into the Prizes at the discretion of WFT adjudicators.

  • WGFD allows this contest as a “harvest contest,” meaning the decision to release a fish must be made immediately after catch. Any fish not immediately returned must be harvested and counted towards the daily stocking limit. Any fish brought to the billing station for prize determination are collected and counted towards the daily creel limit. Each person must have their own lanyard or mechanism to individually track harvested fish.

  • Sacrifice is not allowed.

  • Ice holes should not exceed 10 inches in diameter.

  • Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the ice.

  • Participants must keep dogs leashed and under control at all times.

  • Please keep the area clean. Do not throw trash into ice holes.

  • Entrants acknowledge that names and photographs may be used in the promotion of the tournament. This includes, but is not limited to, print media, radio, television, website or any other media.

  • All prizes are subject to change without notice based on the availability of our sponsors.

  • Wyoming Fishing Tournaments, LLC is not responsible for road conditions, acts of God, ice conditions, accidents, injury or death. You are participating in this activity at your own risk. All registered anglers acknowledge that they have reviewed the rules/regulations and agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the tournament waiver.

  • Failure to comply with the above rules and regulations will result in disqualification from the tournament.

  • No refunds will be allowed after 1/1/2023.

  • Grayling were removed from the list of awards given that they i don’t have it been caught lately. North Crow Reservoir has stocked Tiger Muskie in recent years attempt to eliminate long nose suction cups which will improve fishing in the long run. Tiger Muskie has has been added to the species list as Wyoming Game and Fish reported Tiger Muskie to be about 37” in recent years.. Regulation to keep these fish is one more than 36 inches per person, so they could be legally harvested now.
