Connecticut Fishing Report
Matt, this Black Hall Outfitters in Westbrook he told me there are still plenty of bass for anglers working the salt and brackish tributaries. All the regular late fall/winter rigs have different sized fish. Saltwater anglers still nibbling on the bottom are finding decent bass in 100+ feet of water. Freshwater anglers are reporting good results for cold water bass, pike, pike, trout and walleye. Hair spinners and small soft plastics have worked well for crappie, while inline spinnerbaits have been doing the job for trout and bass. Bass have been chewing across the state, while the best trout reports have come from the Salmon and Farmington rivers. Firefly fishing has been good throughout the CT river for anglers working slow moving jerkbaits or live or dead floaters.
Heather from Black Hawk Sport Fishing reports excellent fishing when they were able to get out last week. Limits of bass, huge porgs, cod and haddock have been mixed in on the bottom fishing trips. Trips are still completely time-based, but will run whenever possible, so be sure to check in before you book your trip. As they move into winter fishing, they further limit the capacity of each trip, so be sure to book as soon as possible!
Captain Mike Roy a Reel Cast Charters reported that they are done with their season but were still finding plenty of bass that were eager to chew in the lower CT river last week. Anglers looking to get out for some light striped bass action should find no shortage of fish. Mike wanted to thank all of his customers for another great season and wish everyone a Happy Holidays!
Tyler, at The world of fishermen in Norwalk said there are still bass on some of the local beaches and in the sound. There have been good numbers of mackerel and herring in the area, which has helped to maintain a decent number of bass. Surfcasters are also reporting solid striped bass results around the outlets at Sherwood Island. The Housatonic has hit its stride this early winter, with nearly every known point from the mouth to Shelton holding fish. Anglers targeting bass are still finding them in 50+ feet of water around Middleground and 28C. On the freshwater side, Saugatuck Reservoir has been producing well for those targeting smallies, walleyes and trout. The water is still quite low, so access is easy. Some local rivers have also been stocked so there are lots of great options.
