Connecticut Fishing Report – 19 May 2023
Are you looking to catch some fish in Connecticut this weekend? Look no further than our fishing report for the latest updates on where to find the hottest bites.
Freshwater Fishing
Trout
If you’re looking to catch some trout, head to the Farmington River. The water flow is perfect, and the fish are hungry. Try using nymphs or streamers, and be sure to fish the deeper pockets where the trout are hiding.
The Housatonic River is also a great option for trout fishing. The water is a bit warmer, so you may have better luck using dry flies. Try fishing in the early morning or late evening when the fish are most active.
Bass
The smallmouth bass are biting at Candlewood Lake. Try using a drop shot rig or a spinnerbait near the rocky areas. You may also have luck fishing near the weed beds.
Lake Lillinonah has been producing some nice largemouth bass lately. Try using a plastic worm or jig in the shallow areas near the shore.
Saltwater Fishing
Striped Bass
If you’re looking to catch some striped bass, head to the Long Island Sound. The bass are feeding on bunker, so try using a topwater plug or a bucktail jig. Fish near the rip currents for the best chance at a big catch.
Fluke
The fluke are starting to move into the Sound, so now is a great time to start fishing for them. Try drifting with a bucktail or squid and minnow combo near the bottom. Fish around the wrecks and reefs for the best chance at a nice catch.
Safety Tips
As always, be sure to wear a life jacket when fishing on a boat or near the water. Also, be mindful of the weather and water conditions. If the water is rough or if there is lightning, it may be best to postpone your trip for another day.
Now that you have the latest fishing report, it’s time to hit the water and catch some fish! Remember to practice catch and release to help preserve our fisheries for future generations.
