Arkansas Fishing Report: Bass are biting as the water cools

December 1, 2022 by Molly Brenneman

The bite improves as the water cools

Beaver Lake

Bass are biting, but scattered in the southern half of the lake.

Reese Jones at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers recommends fishing the Prairie Creek area and the waters south of there. Breeding fish are the best bait. Umbrellas are the most important bait. Locate the schools of halibut and stripers should be nearby.

White bass are schooling and chasing walleye on the surface in the Prairie Creek area. Jones recommends catching them on small topwater lures, swimbaits or spoons. For black bass, try topwater crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or jerkbaits. Look for minnows along the main lake flats 10 to 20 feet deep around the brush. The average water temperature at the surface is between 50 and 50 degrees.

Southtown Sporting Goods in Fayetteville reports little fishing activity. Try black bass on spinnerbaits or crankbaits. Crappie are found around brush seven to 20 feet deep. Try striped bass in the southern half of the lake on jigs or troll with crankbaits.

Austin Kennedy, fishing guide, said trout are biting on Pautzke fire eggs or fire worms in deep pools. For walleye, fish between Holiday Island and Beaver City. Take soft plastic baits or fish near the bottom.

Lake Fayetteville

David Powell, in the lake office, suggests fishing for fish with hair cabinets tipped with a mealworm. Fish a jig and pig slowly for black bass.

Sequoyah Lake

Angler Mike McBride recommends fishing for black bass with spinnerbaits or jerkbaits. Try the fish or the machines for shit. The best fishing is from mid-morning to late afternoon.

Chip Wiseman at Hook, Line and Sinker in Bella Vista said walleye fishing has improved on all Bella Vista lakes, but it’s hit or miss. Minnows are the best bait. Fish six to 12 feet deep around brush. For black bass, try a Scope Spin, a jig and a hog worm or plastic.

Please note that fishing at Bella Vista is only open to POA members and their guests.

Illinois River

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs recommends fishing for black bass with tube lures or small jerk baits.

Lake Swepco

Stroud said late November is the time to start fishing for black bass with hard-bodied swimbaits. Lures 4 to 10 inches long are good to use. Plastic worms, plastic crawdads, and plastic lizards can also work.

Eastern Oklahoma

Stroud recommends fishing Lake Eucha with jigs or jigs in 12 to 15 feet around the brush. Try jerk baits or jigs and pigs for black bass.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports good Grand Lake bass fishing on Alabama rigs, crankbaits or spinnerbaits around brush, rocks and piers. Crappies are clearly biting on the hairpins around the brush and docks. Blue catfish can be fished with chicken liver.

On Lake Tenkiller, rockfish are biting fair on jigs or in-line spinners around brush, rocks or docks.

Table Rock Lake

The Focused Fishing Guide Service said black bass are biting well on jigging spoons or a plastic worm on a casting rig in 25 to 35 feet of depth along gravel flats and gravel points.

Bass are biting plastic shaky-headed worms and hogs 10 to 15 feet deep. Try crawdad colored crankbaits on windy days.
