Surf fishing 2017 so far

Got to say that this has been the worst run of spring/summer fishing in a
long time. No bait, no fish!
Other than the blues that were thick early, bass, blues and fluke have been thin.
Despite catching short bass on any high tide at any time of day, fish over 28" have been rough to get unless you snaged and dropped in the spring. Not my thing to do.
Had more keeper bass in July than the whole spring!
How about you guys? What is your experience so far?
